Khalid bin Walid Mosque
The Khalid Ibn Al-Walid Mosque is located in the city of Homs in Syria and is located in the Khalidiyah area in the northeastern side of the city of Homs, located on the Orontes River. Some claim that Khalid ibn al-Walid is buried in the mosque, and it was said that the owner of the tomb is Khalid ibn Yazid ibn Muawiyah.
Mosque History:
The construction of the Khalid bin Al-Walid Mosque dates back to the seventh century AH (Century: 13 AD) and the current building dates back to the Ottoman era in the 19th century AD during the days of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. The Mamluk during the days of Sultan al-Zahir Baybars in the seventh century AH. The current mosque is characterized by an Ottoman-style building, which is characterized by alternating between black and white colors in its stones, mixed with a beautiful Syrian style.
Ibn Battuta said: “And outside this city is the tomb of Khalid bin Al-Walid, the sword of God and His Messenger, and on it is a corner and a mosque, and on the grave is a black cloth.” Next to Khalid’s tomb is another tomb attributed to his son Abdul Rahman bin Khalid bin Al Walid, and in the mosque another grave is said to be the tomb of Ubaid Allah bin Omar bin Al Khattab.
Yaqut al-Hamawi said: “And in it – that is, Homs – is the house of Khaled bin Al-Walid, may God be pleased with him, and his grave, as it is said, and some of them say that he died in Medina and was buried there, and it is more correct. And it contains the grave of Khalid bin Al-Waleed’s wife and the grave of his son Abdul Rahman, and it was said: It is the tomb of Ubayd Allah bin Omar bin Al-Khattab. From Homs, and this one who is visited in Homs is the tomb of Khalid bin Yazid bin Muawiyah, and he is the one who built the palace in Homs, and the traces of this palace on the west of the road remain.”
Tomb owner:
Some claim that Khalid ibn al-Walid is buried in the mosque, and it was said that the owner of the tomb is Khalid ibn Yazid ibn Muawiyah. Yaqut al-Hamawi said: “And this one who is visited in Homs is the tomb of Khalid bin Yazid bin Muawiyah.” And it came in the book Majmoo’ Fatwas of Ibn Tamimah: “And among them is the grave of Khaled in Homs. It is said that it is the tomb of Khaled bin Yazid bin Muawiyah, this brother of Muawiyah; But when it was known that he was Khalid, and what was well-known among the common folk was Khalid bin Al-Waleed: they thought that he was Khalid bin Al-Waleed, and there was a difference of opinion regarding whether it was his grave or the grave of Khaled bin Yazid. And Abu Omar bin Abdul-Barr mentioned in “Al-Isti’ab” that Khalid bin Al-Walid died in Homs. And it was said: In Madinah – in the year twenty-first or twenty-two in the caliphate of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, and he bequeathed to Omar, and God knows best.”
Islamweb stated: “The tomb of Khalid bin Al-Walid in Homs, as Ibn Kathir mentioned in the beginning and the end, and this is the well-known view among historians, and Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned in the fatwas that Khalid differed about the place of his death, so it was said that he died in Homs and it was said in Medina, and the construction of To say his death in the city is buried. God knows.”
